Five US Marine Corps de Havilland DH-4 aircraft were used to make a strafing and dive bombing attack against bandits besieging the US Marine garrison at Ocotal, Nicaragua. Whilst US Marine aircraft had carried out dive-bomb attacks in Haiti in 1919, the mission at Ocotal, led by Major Ross Rowell, used the newly-established USMC doctrine for the first time.
