The United States Navy Fleet Auxiliary USS Dixie was launched at the New York Shipbuilding Corporation shipyard in Camden, New Jersey, United States. Under the command of Lieutenant Commander G. H. Bahn she would spend the war employed as a destroyer tender in the Pacific, and later earned five battle stars during the Korean War.
